A third Lilou dress...
After the success of my second Lilou, I always knew that I wanted to make a third one. The opportunity arose when I received my prize haul from The Village Haberdashery. I chose to buy 3 metres of this lovely tomato coloured, hand printed cotton by Alison Glass and on its arrival, it is a lovely lightweight fabric that I knew would make a perfect summer dress.
In the lead up to my holiday in Bangkok, I wanted to make some summer dresses to wear, so I set about making my third Lilou. I made lots of alterations to the size and shape in my previous version, so I just went ahead and made it.
For those of you that haven't made this pattern, it's really simple! - Thank you Tilly! It has a lined bodice, which gives a lovely finish. It has an invisible zip fastening down the centre back, which went in really easily. As you can see, I went for a gathered skirt instead of the pleated one in the pattern. I just love a gathered skirt, I can't help it!
I think this pattern now draws with the Mortmain as my most made pattern! Which patterns are you obsessed with? It's now time to find some different patterns maybe...

Amazing print! fabulous fit - I think you've found a winner.
ReplyDeleteI think so too! It was nice in the heat of Bangkok, so should be fine for HK summer too :)
ReplyDeleteI love this so much! Are you on instagram?
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm not Annie. Is it a good idea?
ReplyDeleteI love the colour. I haven't made this pattern yet, but it's on my "want" list. Is it comfy to wear?
ReplyDeleteThanks Louise! It is comfy to wear, although this fit has come from a couple of attempts and alterations. However, after 1 wear of this I had to loosen the lining of the bodice as it was slightly too tight. One of the joys of handmade I guess?!
DeleteThanks for letting me know Sophie, think I will give this pattern ago.
DeleteGo for it! I'd definitely recommend a toile though, just to get the darts in the right place and the neckline/armholes the right shape.
DeleteHey Sophie - Are you going to sign up for Me-Made-May this year? You probably have enough clothes to take part. I've signed up but said I would do Mon-Fri. Still probably finishing off DIY stuff on house at the weekend and can't really do that in the clothes I have made myself x
ReplyDeleteLink is on Sew Zo site...
I certainly thinking about it. My concern is that the weather has just turned here and it is super humid and getting hotter. I'm not sure I have enough items to fit the weather. I might do a little pledge (1 or 2 items per week).
DeleteYou mean that you haven't got a me-made overall yet?!)
Ha yeah, I should have a me-made overall!! Can't be bothered wasting my time on it - although I have sewn lots of patches on my DIY trousers because there are many worn away sections on them! Does that count?!!
